Carrilon (church bells)
This work (without opus-number) was composed in 1958 for a competiton to write a work for the EXPO exhibition held in Brussels that year. The competition was for a work for Carillon in the gothic church of Rumbold , Mechelen in that country, celebrating the fact that Beethoven could trace his ancestry there. Leifs, a lifelong devotee of Beethoven, was keen to show his enthusiasm, but was not successful in the competition.
