Thórir Baldursson earned a diploma from the music education department of the Reykjavík College of Music in 1964. He taught and played in Iceland until he moved abroad in 1970. He mainly worked in studios in Germany and the United States both as a session instrumentalist and arranger. Among the artists he has worked for are Elton John, Donna Summer and Grace Jones. Thóri´s compositions are mainly songs both pop and jazz. He has also composed for symphony orchestras and motion pictures. He returned to Iceland in 1990 and is now an active teacher, performer and arranger as well as composer.
