Björn Thoroddsen studied at the S.D.K. School of Music.He continued his studies at Guitar Institute of Technology in Hollywood, California, graduating in 1982. He has also attended many courses in guitar both in Europe and the U.S.A.
Björn has been a professional musician since 1982 in the teatre, TV, radio and with various bands such as: The Reykjavík Big Band, Iceland Chamber Orchestra, Gudmundur Ingólfsson Band, Kuran Swing and Egil Ólafsson Band. He has worked with many well-known artists, e.g. Niels-Henning Örsted Pedersen, Philip Catherine and Doug Raney. Presently Björn has his own trio and performs with the singer Egill Ólafsson.
Björn Thoroddsen was the founder of the New Guitar School and was principal there from 1990 to 1993. He was also one of the founders of the New Music School in 1994. From the year 1982 Björn has taught at the FÍH Music School.
