Árni Hardarson studied the piano at the Kópavogur Music School, graduating in 1976. He continued his studies at the Royal College of Music in London during 1978 -1983, studying piano with Kendall Taylor and Alan Rowlands, and composition with John Lambert.
After returning to Iceland, Mr. Hardarson has taken an active part in the Icelandic music scene. He has taught theory at the Kópavogur Music School, as well as being a prominent choir conductor. He conducted the University Choir of Iceland during 1983-1989, and currently, he is the conductor of the Fostbraedur Male Choir. He has been appointed the director of Kópavogur Music School as of September 2000. Besides his musical activities, Hardarson has been involved in activities of Icelandic composers, being the president of the Icelandic Composers’ Society.
Hardarson’s catalogue includes several choir arrangements of Icelandic folk songs, as well as larger compositions for choir, and songs for solo voices and piano. His arrangements of Icelandic folk songs have enjoyed immense popularity.
